Sister Carolyn Winschel, formerly Sister Jean Francis, is the executive director of Providence Connections, Inc., a position she has maintained since 2006. She entered religious life from St. Mary’s Church in Glenshaw, Pa., and credits the Sisters of Divine Providence who taught her, as well as her sister, Sister Anne Winschel, and her aunt, also a Sister, with influencing her vocation to religious life.
Sister Carolyn was a teacher in the early part of her ministry. In 1997 (until 2002), she became executive vice president for mission and planning at La Roche College in Allison Park, Pa., and in 2002 she became the senior vice president for mission and planning (until 2004). She was assistant to the provincial director for the Marie de la Roche province from 2002–06.
In keeping with Providence Connections’ mission of strengthening families and enriching lives, Sister Carolyn motivates her staff to always perform at the highest level. She oversees all aspects of the organization, including fundraising and development efforts, donor cultivation, preparing for board meetings, and meeting with the Office of Child Development and the Department of Human Services. She directs all activities at the corporate office, manages existing partnerships and forms new ones, and coordinates all marketing efforts. Of her ministry, she says, “The mission of the agency and Community are my sun by day and moon by night. I try to remember that I am first and foremost a woman of Providence and act as such. In that way, I am making God’s Providence more visible.”
In her spare time, Sister Carolyn loves to garden, and also enjoys cooking and baking, singing, reading, and painting with watercolors.
