Juanita Torres Acevedo, CDP

Sister Juanita Torres Acevedo entered religious life from Sacred Heart Parish in Puerto Rico. From her earliest memories, she credits the Sisters of Divine Providence as being her greatest influence in becoming a Sister.

Sister Juanita earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Catholic University of Puerto Rico. From 1986–90, she taught at several colleges in Puerto Rico, including San Juan Bautista College in Orocovis, San Miguel Arcángel College in Utuado, and San Felipe College in Arecibo. Presently, she is the catechesis coordinator at San Miguel parish in Utuado, PR, since 1990.

When reflecting on the charism of the Community and what it means to her daily life, Sister Juanita cites living every day with confidence in God’s Providence, which he reveals in every moment of every day.

During this time of celebration and reflection, Sister Juanita has learned that God has guided her life over the years with infinite patience and love, which has, in turn, helped her to love those around her unconditionally. She says, “I am eternally grateful to the Congregation for everything I have received all these years.”

Describing herself as “honest, simple, and generous,” Sister Juanita enjoys reading and helping those less fortunate.
