Antoinette Basis, CDP

Sister Antoinette Basis, formerly Sister Demaris, entered religious life from Saints Peter & Paul Parish in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Sister Antoinette earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Duquesne University and a master’s in education from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught at All Saints in Etna, Pa. (1949-50), St. Mary’s in McKeesport, Pa. (1950-52), Sacred Heart in Plymouth, Ma. (1952-53), St. Sylvester in Brentwood, Pa. (1953-55; 68-70; 79-2002), Queen of Peace in Michigan (1955-56), Saints Peter & Paul in East Liberty, Pa. (1956-58), St. Mary’s in Glenshaw, Pa. (1958-61), St. Bonaventure in Glenshaw (1961-62), St. Martin’s on Pittsburgh’s West End (1962-63), St. Mary’s in Ford City, Pa. (1963-64), St. Margaret in Greentree, Pa. (1964-67), St. Joseph’s in Braddock, Pa. (1967-68), St. Norbert’s in Overbrook, Pa. (1970-79). Since 2002, St. Antoinette has volunteered as a kindergarten aide and office substitute at St. Sylvester’s in Brentwood. Of her time teaching, Sister Antoinette says, “I’ve had a lot of experiences. The best thing is you can share your life and ability to help children.”
