Sister Catherine Ann Koller, formerly Sister John Joseph, entered religious life from St. Joseph parish in Duquesne, Pa. She credits her family’s commitment to the practice of the Catholic faith and the Sisters of Divine Providence who taught her as the inspiration for her vocation. She felt drawn to the Community and attended Marycrest Prep School before she entered.
She earned a bachelor of arts and a master of arts from the University of Detroit. Her teaching ministry included St. Mary in Beaver Falls, Pa. (1962-63), Nativity in South Park, Pa. (1963-64), Our Lady Queen of Peace in Harper Woods, Mi. (1964-67), St. Brendan in Detroit, Mi. (1967-72), Wheeling Catholic Consolidated in Wheeling, Wv. (1972-79), St. Bonaventure in Glenshaw, Pa. (1979-82), and St. Basil in Carrick, Pa. (1982-90).
Sister Catherine Ann served as an educational consultant with the Department for Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. At present, she is a part-time Common Core Curriculum coach, Intermediate Unit II, and serves as chair on the Providence Heights Alpha School Board of Directors.
Sister Catherine Ann describes herself as joyful, dependable, and practical, and she says, “Our Provident God has guided my life and decisions. Opportunities for service and ministry unfolded in surprising ways. My ministry in Catholic elementary education began as a first-grade teacher and continued through all of the grades as I served in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, the Archdioceses of Detroit, Wheeling, and Charleston, and back to Pittsburgh as a teacher, principal, and educational consultant.”
In her spare time, she enjoys embroidery and playing board, card, and computer games.
