Ruth Ann McDermott, CDP
Sister Ruth Ann McDermott, formerly Sister Valentine, entered religious life from St. Catherine of Siena parish in Pittsburgh. She credits the Sisters of Divine Providence who ministered at Divine Providence Hospital, where she volunteered during her high school years, with influencing her vocation, especially Sister Mary Alice Nebel.
Her ministry as a teacher includes Divine Providence Academy in Cheswick, PA (1969-78), Tuscarawas Central Catholic Elementary School in Dover, OH (1978-80), Tuscarawas Central Catholic Jr/Sr High School in New Philadelphia, PA (1985-92), Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, MI (1985-92), St. Martin De Porres High School in Detroit, MI (1992-05), Covenant Christian High School in Grand Rapids, MI (2005-07) and Detroit Urban Lutheran School in Detroit (2007-11). Since 2011, she has taught math and science at Detroit Christian Schools.
Sister Ruth Ann says of her ministry, "I have been blessed to serve Detroit for many years. This experience has deepened my commitment to justice and making Providence more visible in the world."
Describing herself as grateful, resourceful, and dedicated, she enjoys crafting in her spare time.
