Marie Dolores Griffith, CDP

Sister Marie Dolores Griffith entered religious life from St. George parish (now Mary, Queen of Peace) in Pittsburgh. She was always aware of Providence in her life and considers God as being the direct influence of her vocation. She entered the Carmelite Community in Columbus, OH, in 1951, where she was trained in music and developed clerical skills. For 32 years, she ministered in Liturgy and internal works of the Community. She became acquainted with the Sisters of Divine Providence through Sister Joan Harper and the late Sister Mariam Joseph, who were ministering at the time in the Diocese of Columbus. Sister Marie Dolores was invited to a gathering at Providence Heights, which extended to a few weeks in which she visited various ministries of the Community. On one of her visits to Providence Heights, she picked up a brochure which spoke of the Provident God and she knew then that the Sisters of Divine Providence was the Community to which God was calling her. She entered the Community on November 2, 1991, and her transfer of Vows took place on March 25, 1995.

Sister Marie Dolores served as an administrative assistant in the development office at Providence Heights (1991–2010). Since 2010, she has volunteered in music ministry as a pianist and as a liturgical dancer at Community events. She finds that her commitment to God in Community is life-giving and challenging. It is a source of hope, encouragement and a shared experience of God's presence in all the realities of our day-to-day existence. She says, "My enthusiasm for religious life is sustained by the certainty that God is source and substance of our lives and truly worth all the dedication of my life's energies."

Self-described as steadfast, enthusiastic and Community oriented, Sister Marie Dolores enjoys playing the piano, working on the computer, reading, crossword puzzles and creative activities.
