26th annual Unity Breakfast channels King’s message of being ‘a catalyst for change’

Don’t be complacent but take action was the message from Dr. Paul Spradley, keynote speaker of the 26th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast on Jan. 19 at La Roche University.

Spradley, the executive director of the university’s Ketteler Center for Peace, Justice and Inclusion, shared King’s message as well as his own life experiences.

Day of Peace Celebration coming to North Park

A procession of 195 United Nations flags will be part of the festivities of the 20th North Hills International Day of Peace Celebration on Sept. 22 in North Park.

The free event is from 2 to 4 p.m. at North Park Point Grove on Lake Shore Drive.

The flag ceremony is held every year at the event, along with a host of local groups of differing cultures, faiths and backgrounds.

North Hills gathers on World Peace Day, champions late nun's mission for social justice

Community members gathered Sept. 21 in North Park for the 21st North Hills International Day of Peace celebration hosted by La Roche University and several local organizations. This year’s theme was “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”

The event organizers also took time to honor Sister Elizabeth “Betty” Sundry, a nun with the Sisters of Divine Providence who directed the order’s office of social concerns for many years and passed away in June.
