Linda Gaupin, CDP
Sister Linda Gaupin entered religious life from St. Margaret Mary parish in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania on September 11, 1966. She was first introduced to religious life by the Sisters of St. Joseph who taught at the school. Inspired by their apostolic ministry she reached out to various religious communities in the area. Her call to become a Sister of Divine Providence came from Sister Mary Glenn (formerly Sister Mary Michael) who invited her to retreats and several religious ceremonies at Providence Heights where she came to know many of the sisters.
She credits her desire to do active ministry in the church as influencing her decision to enter religious life. Her love for handing on the faith through evangelization and formation as well as her passion for the liturgical life of the church encompassed her ministry throughout the years.Sister Linda’s ministry includes chair of the religion department at Divine Providence Academy (1970–76); chair of religious studies at La Roche College in Pittsburgh (1976–84); summer session instructor at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. (1982); diocesan director of worship for the Diocese of Wilmington (1984–91); adjunct professor in the graduate religion department at La Salle University in Philadelphia (1986–91); associate director/secretariat for the liturgy at the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (1991–94); director of faith formation for the Diocese of Orlando (1994-2016). and director of liturgy for Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Clermont, Florida (2016 - 2025).
Throughout the course of her ministry, Sister Linda has presented workshops and given keynote addresses in more than 30 states on topics including liturgy, liturgical catechesis, sacramental catechesis, liturgical celebrations with children, rite of Christian initiation of adults, sacraments of initiation, and Sunday celebrations in the absence of a priest. Her writings have appeared in more than 23 publications.
Currently she is retired and lives in Lower Burrell, PA where she is volunteering at her parish Church teaching at her “Yellow Banana School of Religion for Seniors”, taking communion to the faithful in nursing homes, doing workshops and simply helping out where needed. “Religious life has offered me the opportunity to minister with the people of God through liturgy and faith formation.” I am especially grateful to the community for allowing me to ‘give back’ to my home parish where my vocation began.
