Lu Haidnick, CDP
Sister Lu Haidnick grew up in St. Joseph Church in Cuyahoga Falls with the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine teaching at the school. She entered the Community from Sacred Heart Parish in New Philadelphia later than most at just under 38 years old. When reflecting back, she comments, “Some people frequently rediscover their dreams from earlier times—entering religious life was mine. I didn’t want God to speak to me in the middle of the night, like Samuel, but I wanted some absolute sign. I said, ‘Give me a billboard!’” The closest Sister Lu got was a small sign on the side of the road Billings, MT that read, “Your soul?”
While teaching at Dover High School in Ohio, she met Sister of Divine Providence Rose Anne Krantz and credits her with influencing her vocation to becoming friends and spiritual partners. She found her friendship and witness, as well as her commitment as a Sister, to be inspiring. She also worked 15 years at several Girl Scout Camps including directing a Girl Scout camp in Rhode Island just about 7 miles from our Generalate in Wakefield from 1978-83 before we purchased the property and afterwards at the National Girl Scout Camp in Ten Sleep, Wyoming in 1984 & 1985. It was here that she felt that God was speaking to her. After a year of discernment, she decided to give her life to the Community.
Sister Lu’s ministry was as a Pastoral Associate since entering the Community in Dover at St. Joseph Church and at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora, OH until 2020 when she joined Sr. Rose Anne with various Administrative duties including the Sisters’ finances in The Commons along with other duties.
