Diocese of Pittsburgh - Welcoming the Stranger: A Parish Response to Migration

Aug 21 2025 - 11:30am to 2:00pm

The Diocese of Pittsburgh is offering a special program: Welcoming the Stranger: A Parish Response to Migration

Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM

Cardinal’s Great Hall, O’Connor Hall, Diocesan Pastoral Center (2900 Noblestown Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15205)

Rooted in the Gospel call to welcome the stranger and the rich tradition of Catholic Social Teaching, this gathering invites us to explore how our faith compels us to respond to the realities of migration with compassion, courage, and commitment.

Together, we’ll reflect, share a meal, and hear from Jaime Martinez, who works at Casa San Jose, a local community resource center that supports and empowers immigrant families in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Diocesan leaders will share how we can best respond to migration and welcome the stranger in our parishes and communities.

The afternoon will include:

  • A reflection on migration in light of Catholic Social Teaching
  • A presentation from Casa San Jose on their work and how parishes can partner in accompaniment
  • Practical insights from on forming parish-based responses rooted in solidarity and encounter

This event is free to attend and includes lunch. All are welcome, especially those seeking to better understand the Church’s role in standing with and for migrants in our communities.
