Retired nurse survives rare cervical cancer twice

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and Ascension Saint Thomas wants to bring attention to it with the story of Sylvia Resha, a retired nurse who survived the disease twice.
Resha was 71 years old in 2017 when she was diagnosed with stage 3, moving into stage 4, cervical cancer.
“I was kind of numb in the beginning,” Resha said. “I knew what it was. I felt completely in tune with what was coming. I felt very strongly I was going to be positive through the whole thing. I made up my mind that I wasn’t going to quit living before I die. I made a promise to myself that I would go forth with all the positive aspects of living each day at a time.”
