Lorraine Zappala, CDP

Sister Lorraine Zappala (former Sister Mary Kevin) entered religious life from St. Denis in Hanover, NH. She recalls that becoming a Sister was always in her thoughts, but she went back and forth with the idea, never really knowing if it was the right time. After visiting with the Sisters at Providence Heights in Pittsburgh, she found peace within and decided the time was finally right. She was 25 years old. She entered the Community in 1955.

Sister Lorraine was always an educator. She taught at Sacred Heart in Plymouth, MA (1958–62), St. Bridget in Abington, MA (1962–63), Sacred Heart Elementary in Kingston, MA (1963–67), St. Cecilia in Stamford, CT (1967–74) and St. Francis Xavier in South Weymouth, MA (as principal, from 1974–86). In 1986, she returned to Sacred Heart Elementary in Kingston. Currently, Sister Lorraine is retired and living at Providence House in Kingston, MA.

She says of her life as a religious, "My whole life has been most satisfying and rewarding. I have been able to experience many graces: college education, teaching and travel. As I look back, God and the Community have been very good to me, and as I go along, I am very thankful to all."

Self-described as dedicated, happy and welcoming to all, Sister Lorraine enjoys listening to stories on tapes, being with the Sisters and participating in various activities and games.
