Share the Gift of Memories!

Dear Friends,

You may have already seen that the theme for the season of Lent for the Sisters of Divine Providence is “Becoming a Circle of Friends.” I am asking you to participate in this Lenten journey by becoming a Friend in Providence in a very special way… NOT financially, but by sharing the gift of your memories!

My dad was the custodian for St. Joseph’s Parish in Duquesne, PA. For a while, we lived on the parish property and shared a walkway between our home and the convent. I literally grew up with the Sisters of Divine Providence and have precious memories to treasure. Now that I am Chaplain for the Sisters and live in their new building, The Commons at Providence Heights, I am privileged to create new memories. I am also aware that just as the community of Sisters becomes smaller and faces the challenges of diminishment, so does the group of us who were privileged to grow up with them and share their special influence on our lives.

I am inviting you to take time this Lent and think about your memories of growing up with the Sisters of Divine Providence. Perhaps, and please do, talk with other family members and friends as part of the Lenten journey. Reflect on things that still cause you to smile, laugh and maybe even cry with joy; inspirational thoughts and experiences; humorous anecdotes; lasting life values you have not forgotten; memories of living and deceased Sisters; school days; holiday traditions; retreats, etc.

I would like very much to gather and compile these memories into a work that can be shared and treasured by us all while we are still around. I can’t promise that every memory will be shared with everyone. However, I promise that if you share a memory or story of a particular Sister who is still among us I will certainly share that with her! Please send them by March 31 to:
