Statement from La Roche University

  • Logo of La Roche University.

Like many Americans and countless people around the world, I watched with sadness as violence erupted at the U.S. Capitol earlier this week. I write this statement not only to condemn these shameful events, but to reflect on La Roche University’s role in the healing and reconciliation of our great nation.

Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders and public servants, and the education we provide must guide them in acting with civil responsibility, respect and integrity. La Roche will use this moment in our nation’s history to stand firm in its mission to educate and empower future leaders to promote justice and peace in a constantly changing global society.

Our founders, the Sisters of Divine Providence, envisioned that a La Roche education would foster a genuine respect for others, an abiding tolerance of difference and disagreement, and an unwavering resolve to settle conflict without resorting to hatred or violence. May their vision to always seek peace continue to guide us in the coming days.

As we reflect on recent events, I want to remind students that we offer various resources for support through the offices of Counseling and Health Services, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. If you are stressed or in need of support, La Roche is here for you.

As we look to the transitions that await, we pray that our Provident God unifies our nation and directs us to a path of healing.

Blessings,

Sister Candace Introcaso, CDP, Ph.D.
