Update on Federal Actions

Dear La Roche University Community,

I write to update you regarding the evolving federal landscape and its potential impacts on our university and community. Over the past two months, our senior leadership team has been discussing proposed and enacted federal actions affecting higher education and strategizing steps to mitigate possible negative consequences. We have met with federal legislators and attended conferences and webinars hosted by higher education associations such as the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, the Council of Independent Colleges, the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Pennsylvania, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, as well as legal experts.

In addition, I have created a Task Force on Federal Actions comprised of subject matter experts charged with staying informed and proactive in monitoring federal actions and changes that pertain to their expertise and recommending actions in response for senior leadership to consider. Sarah White serves as chair of this task force which consists of Frank Corona (finance), Bill Crowley (law), Marie Deem (accreditation), Natasha Garrett (international student services), Catherine Matlack (human resources), Colleen Ruefle (Title IX), and Chip Weisgerber (financial aid).

There is a lot happening, but I will only communicate on federal actions that have become law and have been implemented. As always, La Roche will comply with local, state, and federal laws.

La Roche University holds true to our mission and core values; this is the basis for our supportive, caring community that recognizes and respects the inherent dignity of all people. As an academic institution, we value and uphold academic freedom, freedom of expression, and civil discourse as vital components of academic excellence. We remain devoted to the success of all of our students. Thank you for the ways that each of you contribute to our distinctive culture of care and intellectual engagement.

Sincerely,

Christina A. Clark, Ph.D.
