In 1998, the Sisters of Divine Providence instituted the Ketteler Award to honor individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice. The award, named for Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler, Bishop of Mainz, Germany, and co-founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence, is presented annually.
On April 27, 2025, the Sisters of Divine Providence will present this award to Sister Karen Bland, OSB and Bishop Mark Joseph Seitz in recognition of their advocacy for justice.
On April 20, 2024, the Sisters of Divine Providence honored Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton, the 2024 recipient of the Ketteler Award in recognition of his advocacy for justice.
